Introduction

AionUi is a free, open-source Cowork desktop application for teams that juggle multiple CLI coding agents across different terminals. Built on Electron and backed by the iOfficeAI team, it auto-detects installed agents — Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, OpenClaw, Hermes Agent, and 20+ more — and presents them in a unified desktop interface where they can run side-by-side, share a workspace, and even collaborate as a team.

AionUi's flagship feature turns individual coding agents into an organized team. A Leader agent receives your instructions, breaks them into subtasks, and delegates to Teammate agents running in parallel:

Architecture

AionUi operates on a three-tier architecture:

1. Electron Desktop Client (TypeScript, React, Vite) — the user-facing GUI with conversation panels, preview windows, and settings
2. AionCore Backend ( Rust , bundled as aionrs) — the stateful runtime engine managing agent sessions, MCP configuration, cron scheduling, file operations, and API proxy
3. Agent Communication Protocol (ACP) — AionUi's multi-agent coordination layer that standardizes communication between the desktop app and various CLI agent backends

The desktop client communicates with AionCore via a local HTTP/WebSocket API. AionCore manages the lifecycle of connected agents — spawning, session persistence, tool injection, permission handling — and routes API calls to provider endpoints (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, AWS, etc.) directly from your machine.

No data routes through iOfficeAI servers — all processing stays local.

The ACM (Agent Communication Model) handles turn-aware runtime state, ensuring that concurrent agent sessions don't interfere with each other. Team Mode adds a separate coordination layer on top of ACP, with the Leader agent using a built-in Team MCP Server for inter-agent delegation.

Pricing

AionUi is free and open-source under the Apache 2.0 license. There are no paid tiers, subscription plans, or usage quotas. You only pay for the API usage of whichever AI provider you choose — your own API keys for OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, AWS Bedrock, or any of the 30+ supported platforms. Local models via Ollama or LM Studio have zero API cost.

Installation

Quick Start

1. Install AionUi via the GitHub releases page or Homebrew
2. Enter any API key (Gemini, OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.) in the settings panel
3. Start coworking — the built-in AI agent is ready immediately. If you have Claude Code, Codex, or other CLI agents installed, AionUi auto-detects them

Create a Scheduled Task
