AionUi is a free, open-source Cowork desktop app that runs Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, OpenClaw, Hermes Agent, and 20+ more coding agents side-by-side within a unified Electron interface. It auto-detects installed CLI agents, provides a built-in AI engine with 30+ provider support, and adds Team Mode for multi-agent orchestration — all from one desktop workspace.

##
+

Pros
- Unified interface for 20+ CLI coding agents — auto-detects installed tools like Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, OpenClaw, and Hermes Agent, eliminating terminal-switching friction
- Built-in AI agent engine works with 30+ providers (Gemini, OpenAI, Anthropic, AWS Bedrock, Ollama, DeepSeek, OpenRouter, and local models) — no CLI agent required to get started
- Team Mode lets a Leader agent break tasks into subtasks and delegate to Teammate agents running in parallel on different backends, with shared workspace and async mailbox
- MCP (Model Context Protocol) unified management — configure tools once, auto-sync to all agents without per-agent setup
- Cron automation engine for 24/7 unattended execution — natural language scheduling with conversation-bound tasks, fixed intervals, and one-time triggers
- Completely free and open-source (Apache 2.0) with no paid tiers — you only pay for the API usage of whichever AI provider you choose
- Cross-platform support (macOS, Windows, Linux) with WebUI remote access from phone, tablet, or browser
- 21 built-in professional assistants for PPT, Word, Excel, UI/UX design, academic paper writing, financial models, and more

- Preview panel supporting 10+ file formats — PDF, Word, Excel, PPT, Markdown, code, images, HTML, diff — with Git-based version history

##
−

Cons
- Primarily a desktop GUI app — requires Electron runtime, making it heavier than pure CLI alternatives (500MB+ download, 4GB RAM recommended)
- No native IDE extension — agents run inside AionUi's interface rather than inline within editors like VS Code or JetBrains
- Relatively new project — community and documentation ecosystem is still maturing compared to established tools like Claude Code or Copilot
- Dual architecture (desktop app + bundled backend) adds complexity; occasional startup issues with bundled AionCore runtime
- Built-in assistants are office-productivity focused — may overlap with dedicated tools like Microsoft Office or Google Workspace for some users

## Introduction

AionUi is a free, open-source Cowork desktop application for teams that juggle multiple CLI coding agents across different terminals. Built on Electron and backed by the iOfficeAI team, it auto-detects installed agents — Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, OpenClaw, Hermes Agent, and 20+ more — and presents them in a unified desktop interface where they can run side-by-side, share a workspace, and even collaborate as a team.

AionUi goes beyond a multi-tab terminal. It ships its own built-in AI agent engine supporting 30+ providers (Gemini, OpenAI, Anthropic, AWS Bedrock, Ollama, DeepSeek, OpenRouter, and local models), so you don't need a CLI agent installed to get started. It adds Team Mode for parallel multi-agent orchestration, centralizes tool configuration with MCP unified management that syncs across all agents, and includes a cron automation engine for 24/7 unattended task execution. With 28,300+ GitHub stars, 5,575 commits, and 2.8k forks, AionUi has rapidly become one of the most popular open-source tools in the multi-agent workspace category.

## Key Features

### Team Mode — Coordinated Multi-Agent Collaboration

AionUi's flagship feature turns individual coding agents into an organized team. A Leader agent receives your instructions, breaks them into subtasks, and delegates to Teammate agents running in parallel:
- Leader orchestration — supported backends include Claude Code, Codex, Hermes Agent, Gemini CLI, Snow CLI, and Aion CLI (aionrs)
- Async mailbox — Teammates share results through an asynchronous message system and write to a shared task board
- Dynamic scaling — add or remove Teammates while the team is running; silent agents auto-escalate with one-click removal
- Team-isolated workspace — all agents share the same folder; each has its own permission dialog with sidebar badge for pending approvals
- Granular permissions — per-agent YOLO mode (auto-approve) and Full-Auto mode for unattended execution

### Multi-Agent Mode — Unified Interface for CLI Agents

If you already use Claude Code, Codex, or other CLI agents, AionUi auto-detects them and integrates them into a single workspace:
- Auto-detection — recognizes installed CLI tools on your system path
- Parallel sessions — run multiple agents simultaneously with independent context per conversation
- Unified MCP configuration — add MCP tools once, auto-sync to every agent without per-agent setup
- YOLO / Full-Auto modes — bypass permission prompts for unattended execution
The built-in agent engine means you can also start working immediately without any CLI agent installed — just paste an API key and go.

### MCP Unified Management

AionUi centralizes Model Context Protocol (MCP) configuration across all agents in one place:
- Single source of truth — configure MCP servers once in AionUi's settings panel
- Auto-sync — every connected agent (Claude Code, Codex, built-in engine, etc.) receives the same toolset
- Skill system — three-tier skill architecture (builtin, custom, extension) with per-conversation enable/disable
- Skills Marketplace — browse and install community-contributed extensions to extend agent capabilities

### Cron Automation — 24/7 Unattended Execution

AionUi includes a built-in scheduler that runs agents on a cron:
- Natural language scheduling — describe the task and frequency conversationally
- Three scheduling modes — standard cron expressions (with timezone), fixed intervals (every N minutes/hours), and one-time triggers
- Conversation-bound context — each task attaches to a conversation, maintaining full history across runs
- Keep-awake — prevents system sleep while tasks are active; detects missed triggers after wake
- Real-world examples — daily code reviews, weekly sales data aggregation, monthly file backups, automated standup notes

### Built-in Office Assistants

AionUi ships 21 professional assistants for non-coding productivity tasks:

### Remote Access & Chat Platform Integration

AionUi agents remain accessible when you're away from your computer:
- WebUI mode — access from any browser (LAN, cross-network, or server deployment) with QR code or password login
- Telegram — send commands to your AI agent directly from Telegram
- Lark / Feishu — enterprise collaboration via Feishu bots
- DingTalk — AI Card streaming with automatic fallback
- WeChat — integration with personal WeChat accounts

## Architecture

AionUi operates on a three-tier architecture:
- Electron Desktop Client (TypeScript, React, Vite) — the user-facing GUI with conversation panels, preview windows, and settings
- AionCore Backend ( Rust , bundled as aionrs) — the stateful runtime engine managing agent sessions, MCP configuration, cron scheduling, file operations, and API proxy
- Agent Communication Protocol (ACP) — AionUi's multi-agent coordination layer that standardizes communication between the desktop app and various CLI agent backends
The desktop client communicates with AionCore via a local HTTP/WebSocket API. AionCore manages the lifecycle of connected agents — spawning, session persistence, tool injection, permission handling — and routes API calls to provider endpoints (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, AWS, etc.) directly from your machine.

> No data routes through iOfficeAI servers — all processing stays local.

The ACM (Agent Communication Model) handles turn-aware runtime state, ensuring that concurrent agent sessions don't interfere with each other. Team Mode adds a separate coordination layer on top of ACP, with the Leader agent using a built-in Team MCP Server for inter-agent delegation.
